Selecting the best wireless channel
By default, the FRITZ!Box checks the wireless environment automatically. However, with some disturbances it cannot determine the best wireless channel for the wireless device. Therefore, select the wireless channel in the FRITZ!Box that is least affected by disturbances in the wireless environment:
First, it is advisable to connect your computer to your router with the supplied ethernet cable. It is possible for you to put the device into a state where you cannot access it via the wireless connection – if this happens you will be required to use the cable anyway. On most computers you can connect both wirelessly and wired at the same time, so you can test your settings each time you change them.
- Click “WLAN” in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click “Radio Channel” in the “WLAN” menu.
- Click on the link “Show WLAN Disturbances” in the “WLAN Location” section.
- Use the graph to see which channel in the lower frequency range is least affected by other wireless networks and sources of interference.
- Enable the option “Adjust radio channel settings” in the “Radio Channel Settings” section.
- Select the wireless channel that was affected the least from the drop-down menu “Radio Channel”.
- Click “Apply” to save your settings.
- Check whether the problem with your wireless connection still occurs.
- If you are still experiencing problems with the wireless connection:
- Repeat steps 3 – 8 with a wireless channel in the middle and then with one in the higher frequency range; always select the wireless channel that is least affected by disturbances.
Important:The diagram of the wireless environment only reflects the current situation! The allocation of the frequency bands can change over the course of the day because many wireless networks are switched on when in use. Therefore check several times to see which wireless channels are least affected by interference.
- Repeat steps 3 – 8 with a wireless channel in the middle and then with one in the higher frequency range; always select the wireless channel that is least affected by disturbances.
